Gain understanding of the cultural and historical significance of sealskin craftsmanship
Create and take home a handcrafted sealskin crossbody bag

🔍 Important Note on Sealskin Use:

Under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), sealskin use has traditionally been limited to individuals who are at least 1/4 Alaska Native by blood. However, recent federal guidance from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) is expanding that definition.

Now, descendants of Alaska Natives who are recognized by their Native village or community may be eligible to participate in traditional skin sewing practices—even if they do not meet the blood quantum requirement.

This shift moves toward honoring lineal descent and cultural recognition, not just federal blood standards, and continues to evolve across agencies.

No previous sewing experience is required. All materials are included. Come ready to learn, sew, and connect with your cultural roots through traditional arts.
