Description

Into the Woods Alaska’s summer day camps are based out of Kincaid Park, and include field trips each week for foundational climbing skills, paddling safety skills, and hiking day trips in our local mountains. Local youth attending our programs will understand how close we live to wilderness spaces right here in Anchorage and South Central Alaska. Within the context of outdoor recreation, friends and fun, our instructor guides will mentor youth in learning wilderness first aid skills, self and team rescue skills in different wilderness situations, teamwork, developing wilderness decision-making and risk-assessment skills, and much more as youth learn, engage, and experience Alaska’s beautiful summer!

Our wilderness trips are for older youth and teens and focus on more advanced foundational skills in addition to helping youth prepare for work in the field of outdoor education and outdoor leadership, understanding that often demonstrable skills in these areas can help youth gain admittance to universities and broaden their future career prospects beyond the wilderness setting. We firmly believe that in order for youth to become adults who advocate for protecting our wild spaces, they need to experience the beauty of it first hand and understand the importance of these spaces in our lives not just for the health of our planet, but for our mental and spiritual health as well.
